Vintage silver for West Weddings Magazine 2014 - winter issue

The setting:

The Battleaxes, Wraxall, Nr Bristol

Imagine a setting of elegant faded grandeur and quirky shabby chic decor.   The Battleaxes at Wraxall, near Bristol , was the chosen location for a wintery photoshoot with the incredibly talented team from   West Weddings Magazine   for their winter 2014 issue, currently on the shelves.

The design

Delighted as always to be asked to design the cake for the shoot, after much consideration and a head brimming with creativity, I decided on a romantic, vintage look. I covered a double depth tier with edible silver leaf ~ see how beautifully silver leaf reflects the gentle flickering glow of candlelight ~ so enchanting for a frosty winter wedding or an evening reception. Combined with the silver tier I worked a delicate lace design over all the ivory iced tiers. Lace cakes are a hugely popular choice at the moment with so many brides wanting the lace to replicate that of their dress or veil.

A touch of diamante in the form of a vintage inspired brooch, along with a cluster of signature roses and winter berries completed the look. I couldn't resist the addition of some pretty lace butterflies dotted here and there ~ not strictly winter, but definitely adding a romantic, fairytale feel to the overall delicate look.

Our scrummy NEW Drip Cakes are every bit as delicious as they look but without the sweet, fondant icing.

We find that not everyone likes sweet icing, so we bake and fill our new range of layer cakes in a variety of tasty flavours, then cover them with a coating of swiss meringue buttercream frosting, before drizzling them with a rich, dark chocolate ganache drip.  We then go to town on the decoration with lots of pretties and hand-made chocolate trimmings, and other luscious treats, such as chocolate dipped strawberries and raspberries and meringue kisses.  As well as the dark chocolate range we can also make a white or milk chocolate variety.   Check the blog for more exciting flavours coming soon.  For further information contact Anne at bake@prettyamazingcakes.co.uk.
